Shivakumar Ramaswami
My Story–
Born to a banker and a professor, I have spent all my life in Bangalore and Mumbai. Studying in haloed institutions such as Jamnabai Narsee, Narsee Monjee and IIML gave me the ability to appreciate diversity and confidence to express myself.
How I got into investment banking?-
Have been an investment banker for more than 8 years with Indigoedge. When we launched the consulting business focused on SMEs and start-ups, the common hindrance to growth across the board was capital and / or succession planning. Given we were trusted advisors to the Founders, their natural instinct was to ask us to advise them on their financial interventions as well.
What keeps me up at night?
A growing economy and a young population puts us in the forefront of growth over the next few decades. However, we as a country still grapple with day to day struggles which drags all of us down.
My inspirations–
Muthiah Muralitharan and Nadal. Both stories are inspiring for the fact that they overcame adversity and transformed themselves to dominate their trade for a sustained period.
My focus/interest–
my interest lies in working with passionate and visionary entrepreneurs who aspire to alter how businesses are done in this country.
What excites me?
Any company that increases ease of living and provides ease of access to basic necessities (roti, kapda, makaan – to put it simply) in a seamless convenient and viable fashion excites me.
Best piece of advice given to me –
“Why do you want to join Goldman Sachs, why not create one from scratch?” my father when I was starting my MBA. This led me to want to be an entrepreneur and an investment banker at that.
My advice to entrepreneurs –
“Businesses fail, entrepreneurs don’t. It is important to enjoy the journey and stay focused on the same. Outcomes will take care of themselves.”
What IndigoEdge is to me –
A second family.
Cooling off–
Sport and trashy novels
